Honor National Diabetes Month and Take Charge of Your Health Now!
November 1, 2013 – To celebrate “National Diabetes Awareness Month,” health consultant group, Take Charge of Health Now, would like to share some special information that will help you understand what diabetes is and how you can become aware and prevent it from dampening your lifestyle. “It is important that people understand diabetes and the different types of diabetes so people can take charge of their health now and live a healthy, happy lifestyle instead of suffering with symptoms that absolutely can be avoided,” says CEO of Take Charge of Health Now, Janice Longobardi.
Individuals can have one of three types of Diabetes: Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, and Gestational Diabetes. Type 1 Diabetes is often referred to as insulin-dependent diabetes, juvenile diabetes, or early-onset diabetes. This type of diabetes usually develops before the age of forty and most often in early adulthood or teenage years. This type of diabetes is not as common as Type 1, since only about 10% of all diabetics fall under Type 1 Diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes is by far the most common type of diabetes in the world; 90% of all diabetics are living with Type 2 Diabetes. This type of diabetes is controllable if individuals will strive to lose weight, keep their weight under control, and eat a healthy diet. Exercise with this type of diabetes is always a great idea, along with constant monitoring of blood glucose levels. Even with healthy monitoring, Type 2 Diabetes has been known to worsen over time, which eventually leads patients to taking insulin.
Gestational Diabetes, the third type of diabetes, affects women during their pregnancy and is diagnosed during pregnancy. This type of diabetes happens as some women have elevated levels of glucose in their bodies and are unable to produce enough insulin to process the glucose. Many pregnant women dealing with this type of diabetes can control it with exercise and diet. It’s extremely important that women with Gestational Diabetes control their disease, as neglect can lead to complications during childbirth.
